The Maiden Gully Primary School Art Room is a place of creativity, individual expression, and the celebration of all things ART. We support students to work safely, take responsibility for their creative practice and to consider perspectives of artists from a range of backgrounds and cultures.
At Maiden Gully Primary School, Visual Arts offers students the opportunities to develop their creative and expressive abilities by learning about the different styles that shape the expression of culture locally, nationally and globally. Our program allows for students to express, represent and communicate their own ideas in contemporary, traditional and emerging arts forms. They learn about the relationships between the viewer and artworks, and how artworks can be displayed to enhance meaning to the viewer.
Visual Arts engages students in a journey of discovery, experimentation and problem-solving relevant to visual perception and visual language, utilising visual techniques, technologies, practices and processes. Learning in the Visual Arts leads students to become increasingly confident and proficient in achieving their personal visual aesthetic, appreciating and valuing that of others. Visual Arts supports students to view the world through various lenses and contexts. They recognise the significance of visual arts histories, theories and practices, exploring and responding to artists, craftspeople and designers and their artworks. They apply visual arts knowledge in order to make critical judgments about their own work and that of others. Learning in the Visual Arts helps students to develop understanding of world cultures and their responsibilities as global citizens.

The significant contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to Australia’s arts heritage and contemporary arts practices are explored across the Arts, and students are encouraged to respect and value these unique and evolving traditions.

Throughout the year students at Maiden Gully participate in a wide variety of different activities, using a range of different medium intended to expand and develop:
This year Maiden Gully Primary School will be holding an Art Show early Term 2. The Art Show will include 1-2 artworks on display per child with an underlying theme of ‘Australia’. All artwork created for this fabulous event either have taken inspiration from Australian nature, pop culture and/or famous Australian artists; including May Gibbs, Ken Done, Albert Namitjira, Jimmy Pike and artist from the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara Yakunytjatjara Lands of Northern Territory, Western Australia, and South Australia. We will also be hosting a local artist from our school community, Sarah Hocking who will be sharing with our school her artwork and allowing the school community to experiment what it is like to create art pieces as a person with minimal vision.
Maiden Gully Primary School also has its own Instagram page where we post some of the activities we create throughout the year: maidengullyps_art
